Dsc00999

Blame it on the clock:Left Vegas at 6am, we were supposed to leave at 230 am but our alarm clock did’nt work..nevertheless, plan goes through.  Left our comfy niche, our humble home and took our "black beauty" dog over my in-laws the night before.  Sad to say, my husband and I already missed her.

Accomplishment: In 20 hrs, we were proud of our accomplishment of driving through 4 States! the Dsc00995drive was incredible and less boring for sure, compared to our drive from YVR to Las Vegas, last year–specifically the drive enroute to Vegas from Reno is Horrible..WE thought we were going to die! die out of boredom, heat, leass stimulation and plain BLAH! the drive reminded me of a scene from lonely planet.

Dsc01003Dsc01002UTAH: On the day we drove,   we first stopped by Starbucks got our grande ice mocha with whip of course.  Our car was packed and the idea of having a Dsc01005_1cooler and prepared sandwhiches was great!  we headed to our first stop Utah and enjoyed the amazing red canyons and landscape.  lots of striations in the mountain side,  There was never a site of lake along our drive. Wooden cabins surround these canyons, I bet winter is great in Utah.  Aside from Utah, being known as the Mormon State,  this state was also more industrial than we ever thought! surrounded by factories and smokey chimneys.  We passed by and finished the Drive in Utah in almost 5 hrs approximately.  The road signs were quite confusing, lots of SO. signs–to name a few SO. 45678, SO 32678 not really quite sure how that works, but for posterity sake I took a picture and will eventually search for answers as to how this works.  Does anyone know how this actually works? all the signs had SO.  (does that stand for South? what if Im going North, do I have to go through SO. first, wherein Im going South but will actually need to hit North?) Oh gosh spare me with your explanation.

IDAHO: The transition from Utah to Idaho was pretty quick, my husband seem tired so I gladly took over and drove to cross IDAHO-OREGON.  The drive was less stimulating, but tolerable.  Finding a good radio station after going through my pile of Cd’s is almost a torture.  Radio stations are either full in Static, or just busting out some country tunes, but then again I’m not a country song fan.. but do I really have a choice, when all there is, is a country song?  for that short of span of time, I got to know Leanne Rymes, Colin Raye, Jeff Stryker, and Ashley Simons to name a few (RnB fans: who the hell are they?) I was square tapping my feet, while I was driving to farm lands, surrounded by wheat, corn and some others..I kept on looking out for a potato farm since Idaho is known for it, but unfortunately could not gaze on it during my fast drive along the vast empty road.  Interesting enough, I saw a dead deer, dead racoon, dead squirrel and I saw a bird lost its wing after it hit the truck just before me (ouch! poor bird will eventually die as it landed on the side of the road).  I also saw a truck on fire, (over heated) and some po-po (police) on the road investigating, and hence I had to be a good girl and drive slowly, then speed up right after, when they’re out of my site.

OREGON: At last, I can breathe…by this time my husband was awake, due to my load voice singing away to country songs. He’s probably thinking that I’ve gone completely mad.  And so, we stopped by a gas station, emersed ourselves with a short break with selections of snacks and off we switched.  By this time, switching driver seats was probably a good idea since I’d rather enjoy the site of Oregon.  It was already 4pm and yet we were rushed with adrenaline, challenging ourselves that we could probably make it to Vancouver, Monday 12am.  ( I let my husband do all the talking…"WE’ll head straight to BC tonight" i’m thinking "yeah right, if you can clear up yor tired red eyes, fill in your tummy with decent food other than sanwhiches and chips, get some sleep then we’ll make it) At this point, our muscles are stiff and butts cramping after almost 12 hours-half a day of driving.  Unfortunately, the sun was almost setting as we were just enjoying the scenic route to Oregon.  We were completely surrounded with nothing but darkness, the coastal highways, the shore and the moon that mirrors over it, it would be much nicer if we could enjoy this in the day time.  Our car was turning from quiet short conversations to silence, and all we can hear are our stomaches grumbling, asking for a decent meal and a well deserved rest.  We both realized that we over challenged ourselves from making it to BC by midnight.  We decided to call it a night and stopped over Dalles, Oregon.  Plan in the am: Take more pics and enjoy the rest of the scenes from Oregon, (oh and shopping ofcourse counts haha).

WASHINGTON: We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, we’ve gone past 4 states and enjoyed a glimpse of it during our drive. We enjoyed this drive better, and now we’re already thinking of doing this route again.  156miles to BC, we can actually see the signs! after seeing warning signs with miles longer than that, we knew that this drive will be a breeze.  It was almost close to nothing that we could ever define as "FAR"  finally we are close to getting this jouney done.  As all there ever is, it is an amazing experience sharing this with someone else-my husband.  It was another mission accomplished:

Gasoline from Vegas to Vancouver BC –$150

     Snacks/meals                                   –$100

     Overnight stay                                 –$60

Being together enjoying and listening to the nature, the sunrise to sunset,

enjoying the moon as it mirrors itself on the shore, sharing the sure feeling of

adrenaline, hunger and exhillaration, seeing family and nephews, —-

     PRICELESS!

F’ns…

Vegas has its perks and quirks. Never enjoyed Vegas until the last few days I dined out and tasted the amazing flavors of the world.  Away from the hussle and bustle sound of the casino’s and the pavlov’s dog style that these slot machine bring, Vegas has been truly amazing.  On the other hand, let me just say that I can sometime be a hypocritical bitch just waiting for something more.  Well, the least to say, after a few encounters with few rude people, I have certainly appreciated the essence of saying the "F" word! (with whole factual crisp and meaning of course!)

A few of these people in my honorary list are : the guy that cuts me off while I was signaling left first to cross an intersection, this driver who pissed my husband off while I was on my way to work, giving him the "fling" after my husband honks at him stopped in the bus stop-and to think there’s a big sign "NO STOPPING" (thinking that I would probably be caught in a stand off after a few exchange of words),this driver who stole our parking spot in the hotel after waiting for this spot to clear up(with great courage, wanted to face my husband’s fist and pulled out) this lady who had no sympathy for an old man in the cane crossing the street and just honks for him to walk faster ( what on earth was that?), this cashier guy in MC’ds who was chewing a mouthful of chocolate while taking our order and gladly we reported him (after which he tried to run towards to the kitchen area–eww, who knows no spitting please!) gladly we took off… and just recently this girl who told us to back off from our food in this hawaiian restaurant after telling her that our food is ready and sitting in their hot area counter (Does’nt she know we were there to eat and might be starving? Why is she working there in the first place if all she does is to persuade people she’s busy..after all there were only 2 customers in the restaurant at that time including us!)

To all these people, life won’t be the same anymore after a few "F’n " here and there.  Thankyou for teaching me that tongue twister sets of "F’s" .  For all these people, I do hope NOT to ever see again!

ps..just to give you the history, check out this site and put the volume up!

Night Owl

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

Am I born with this? or just genetically predisposed? I sure do know that being a night owl is one of my special skills..I can certainly get past midnight without the aid of coffee or any form of caffeine, and yet here my husband lies, beside me certainly in cloud nine while my thoughts are starting to run and ideas just flare my mind.  I am certainly not a day person but  can highly talk myself up with any conversation until sunrise. I am so envious of people who can sleep just about anywhere, anytime and later on get up as soon as the sun peeps! or even as fast as the birds chirp!  truly I am a night owl, but gone are the days when I can party just about everynight until 4am.  This blog thing has absolutely became my handy rescue when anything just crosses my mind particularly at this time of day…just about half past midnight.  And when my rescue fails..then I will find some way to force myself to snooze!

Tips For a Good Night’s Sleep Sleepingbaby1a

  • Set a schedule:

Go to bed at a set time each night and get up at the same time each morning. Disrupting this schedule may lead to insomnia. "Sleeping in" on weekends also makes it harder to wake up early on Monday morning because it re-sets your sleep cycles for a later awakening.

  • Exercise:

Try to exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day. Daily exercise often helps people sleep, although a workout soon before bedtime may interfere with sleep. For maximum benefit, try to get your exercise about 5 to 6 hours before going to bed.

  • Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol:

Avoid drinks that contain caffeine, which acts as a stimulant and keeps people awake. Sources of caffeine include coffee, chocolate, soft drinks, non-herbal teas, diet drugs, and some pain relievers. Smokers tend to sleep very lightly and often wake up in the early morning due to nicotine withdrawal. Alcohol robs people of deep sleep and REM sleep and keeps them in the lighter stages of sleep.

  • Relax before bed:

A warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine can make it easier to fall sleep. You can train yourself to associate certain restful activities with sleep and make them part of your bedtime ritual.

  • Sleep until sunlight:

If possible, wake up with the sun, or use very bright lights in the morning. Sunlight helps the body’s internal biological clock reset itself each day. Sleep experts recommend exposure to an hour of morning sunlight for people having problems falling asleep.

  • Don’t lie in bed awake:

If you can’t get to sleep, don’t just lie in bed. Do something else, like reading, watching television, or listening to music, until you feel tired. The anxiety of being unable to fall asleep can actually contribute to insomnia.

  • Control your room temperature:

Maintain a comfortable temperature in the bedroom. Extreme temperatures may disrupt sleep or prevent you from falling asleep.

  • See a doctor if your sleeping problem continues:

If you have trouble falling asleep night after night, or if you always feel tired the next day, then you may have a sleep disorder and should see a physician. Your primary care physician may be able to help you; if not, you can probably find a sleep specialist at a major hospital near you. Most sleep disorders can be treated effectively, so you can finally get that good night’s sleep you need.

  • What the heck?!

    Thursday, August 4th, 2005

Jeffnjeunesse I’m finally back in Vegas…not quite a huge sigh of relief amidst all these life filled choices and difficult options.  My husband has been a huge support and in return I’m a great fan of his.  All these corporate mumbo-jumbo has been in our heads for the past few months and I continue to count the days until it becomes a thing  of our past.  As  I contemplate into this makeshift-temporary world of ours, I have learned so much of my surroundings and the people that make my world.  What the heck?!@# people are people! different folks different strokes!!! All of a sudden I find myself drowning into these thoughts of my psychological world..which I tend to overgeneralize.

My husband says I should write a book "I’m thinking..he is probably right!" just keep on writing and find a publisher in the end.. not that I am slowly becoming manic or anything…but I can probably attest that  I could just babble on none sense when given the opportunity.

Nevertheless, my life a the moment is in the verge of transition…marriage is great! family and friends are great…but is it me or it just VEGAS?…they said its not what Vegas can do for me, its what I can do for Vegas…Thus, my contemplation goes on…44 days and counting…soon I’ll find the answer, hoping and praying that tomorrow it will be knocking on our door.

    Transitions

    © By Ashley E. Bailey

    Nervous, Insecure,
Desperately trying to be like everyone else,
    Not wanting to stick out,
Praying for the approval of my peers,
I began the next chapter of my life.

    Thrown out into the dark,
    Into a thickly settled forest,
    With no choice,
    I cleared the way,
    Through these years,
    Now I’ve found the light.

    This journey wasn’t easy,
    Many times, I was lost,
    Drowned by temptations and falsifications,
Veered of the path by mistakes and misfortunes,
Broken and bruised at times, but I survived.

I didn’t take this walk alone,
There were many along the way,
Some walked beside me, Some followed,
Some guided, while others passed me by,
I take a piece of them all,
    What I have learned,
    And I am me.

    Memories fill my path,
    Some good, Some bad,
Cries of pain filled my dark,
Smiles and laughs emblazoned my light,
    I loved some, lost some,
    It all completes my story.

I walked into the forest frightened,
I walked out frightened but no longer afraid to admit it,
On that journey, In that dark,
I found myself, I found light,
I became a person I am proud to be,
I am ready now, Ready to turn the page,
Ready to begin a new chapter, Another journey
